The sun is out, the temperature is up, and we're waiting for our summer break. Summer always brings fun trends in clothing, and prints are always a huge trend in every spring-summer. However, this year's print trend is spiced up and we're up to another level of adventure. This season, the most discussed trend in all fashion magazines is the mixing of patterns and prints. It is time for fashion rules to be broken, however, there are certain tips and tricks on how to break the rules and mix prints, without doing any fashion sins.
I would stay with only two patterns, it's already daring as a trend, and adding the third print can bring a bit of confusion. The prints should compliment each other. If you're doing two prints of the same pattern, (both florals, both polka dots, both stripes etc) or if you're going to mix two prints (polka dots with stripes, floral with tribal etc) always make sure that you have one print which is more dominant and bolder than the other. If you have large polka dots in an item, the print on the item complimenting it should be either small polka dots, or any other print which is small, like thin stripes. This also helps you adapt this trend to your figure - if you have a heavier upper body, go for a heavier print on your lower body, and vice-versa. A smaller print on your heavy part, will draw more attention to the larger print on your less heavy part, so you don't look wider. When it comes to accessorizing your look, try to tone it down by adding simple pieces like a belt to bring everything together, neutral shoes to keep the attention to the prints, or a plain other piece of clothing to tone it down, as there's already too much going on in the outfit.
Here I created four outfit ideas on how you could look fabulous with this trend:
(Polka dotted skirt, bolder print on the blazer, plain white t-shirt to stay neutral.) |
(Bolder print on the trousers than on the top. Everything black and white so red bag and red lips to add colour.) |
Choose to shine !
