And off to Never-land !

THE PETER PAN COLLAR

When we hear the name Peter Pan, most people remember of the Disney cartoon character we used to watch when we were little. However, to fashionistas, the Peter Pan collar come to mind!! This is a soft flat rounded collar which adds a feminine doll-like effect to any outfit.
But why is it called the Peter Pan collar? Didn’t Peter Pan wear a v-neck?

In 1904, Peter Pan hit the stage for the first time. The famous play by J.M. Barries displayed Peter wearing a rounded collar sitting flat on the shoulders. In 1953 Disney changed Peter Pan’s collar to a pointed collar with a v-neck, but the rounded collar has remained named in Peter’s honour. A Peter Pan collar evokes a sense of schoolgirl innocence, but was originally worn by young boys in the late 1800′s. Back then it was known as the Little Lord Fauntleroy suit collar.

With the recent surge in vintage styles, the peter pan has made reappearance in stores and magazines. We see the peter pan collars ...

I too, try to explore this trend. I sometimes feel the need to add something feminine, to my short hair and a round figure. Moreover, the peter pan collar adds femininity to edgy looks, blazers, and faux leather. In this blog, I will be showing you three peter pan collar pieces in my wardrobe, a dress, a t-shirt and a shirt.

Starting with this dress from peacocks, I love the way the peter pan collars opens on the back. Being a conservative dress, the back spices it up and makes it somewhat original and unexpected. I love wearing this dress with an opaque black or violet tights. I simply adore the look and warms the dress up making it suitable for fall and winter. This dress looks adorable underneath a mustard cardigan, which gives a preppy look, and makes me feel like a little girl in uniform.

Another Peter Pan collar item in my wardrobe is this T-shirt from Zara. Again, the back has something unexpected, a zip which makes the T-shirt interesting and original. You can wear up this t-shirt by adding a black blazer, dark washed jeggings, and coloured high heels... this will give a feminine, glamour and chick look , or else wear it with a high wasted jeans shorts and flats, and stay casual yet still stylish.

My last item is this shirt from Zara. You have seen this shirt in my first blog : click here to see. My favourite way to wear Peter Pan collar blouses is with a chunky short necklace like the gold one from Accessories which is seen in the picture. This gives an elegant and sophisticated look to the outfit. Moreover, I love gold paired with black, so I must say I love this look. Another popular way to spice up peter pan collar blouses is by tucking them underneath chunky knit sweaters.

The Peter Pan collar is very versatile, and a detachable Peter Pan collar or necklace is a great way to embrace this trend and add it into your wardrobe without spending a lot of money.  Detachable collars exist in different patterns and sizes, oversized, embellished, beads, etc , they are were popping out everywhere last fall, and are still coming out this winter.

What I love about fashion is that it is like art. As an artist is free to express himself by mixing colours and techniques to create a sculpture or painting or a piece of music, everyone can do this by using the pieces in our wardrobe, mixing and matching and creating outfits.  The Peter Pan collar is great because it gives every outfit a girly vintage look that can either be dressed up or dressed down and which you, as an artist, can play with and feel like a little girl in Never-land.

I hope you enjoyed this post :)
