Play with Patterns

Hello dear readers :)

The sun is out, the temperature is up, and we're waiting for our summer break. Summer always brings fun trends in clothing, and prints are always a huge trend in every spring-summer. However, this year's print trend is spiced up and we're up to another level of adventure. This season, the most discussed trend in all fashion magazines is the mixing of patterns and prints. It is time for fashion rules to be broken, however, there are certain tips and tricks on how to break the rules and mix prints, without doing any fashion sins.

I would stay with only two patterns, it's already daring as a trend, and adding the third print can bring a bit of confusion. The prints should compliment each other. If you're doing two prints of the same pattern, (both florals, both polka dots, both stripes etc) or if you're going to mix two prints  (polka dots with stripes, floral with tribal etc) always make sure that you have one print which is more dominant and bolder than the other. If you have large polka dots in an item, the print on the item complimenting it should be either small polka dots, or any other print which is small, like thin stripes. This also helps you adapt this trend to your figure - if you have a heavier upper body, go for a heavier print on your lower body, and vice-versa. A smaller print on your heavy part, will draw more attention to the larger print on your less heavy part, so you don't look wider. When it comes to accessorizing your look, try to tone it down by adding simple pieces like a belt to bring everything together, neutral shoes to keep the attention to the prints, or a plain other piece of clothing to tone it down, as there's already too much going on in the outfit.

Here I created four outfit ideas on how you could look fabulous with this trend:

(Polka dotted skirt, bolder print on the blazer, plain white t-shirt to stay neutral.)

(Floral shorts, larger print on the top. Note how they don't match, but they don't clash because the prints compliment each other.  Belt to put together the outfit, and here I would tuck the top inside the shorts)

(High wasted shorts with bolder print than the polka dots on the top. The two items have different colours, but compliment each other because of the white stripes and white spots. Everything else is kept neutral and simple.)

(Bolder print on the trousers than on the top. Everything black and white so red bag and red lips to add colour.)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Hello dear readers :)

You know next Sunday is Mother's Day don't you? Have you thought of getting anything nice to your mother? or do you leave it to the very last minute like I do?

Here I gathered 6 simple ideas of gifts you could get your mum on this special day!
  1. Hand-bag The ideal bag would be a large tote like this one, you know how mums are, their bags are like first aid boxes, fridges, you can find anything in their bag, so buy her a large bag so she can fit all the stuff she carries around with her :)
  2. Appliance This is not meant to mean ... 'hey mum stay in the kitchen and cook', but '' Hey mum, thx so much for cooking, I love your cooking, here's something to help you :) '' Haha, but no, I think it's a great gift, and any appliance would do, a hand blender, a food processor, a vacuum cleaner etc etc .. all depends on your budget
  3. Recipe book Solve your mum's daily '' What shall I cook today? '' problems ! If your mum loves cooking, this would be a great gift idea :)
  4. Flowers Every woman would enjoy a bouquet on her special day. Just make sure you don't get the flowers from her own garden :P Show some effort guys!
  5. A day of Pampering She must be tired of taking care of you, it's time for her to relax, and a day at a SPA, where she can be pampered would be perfect for every busy mum.
  6. Beauty Products Maybe a perfume, or a lotion, for the face or for the body, and an anti-aging product would be great for the elder ones. A woman can never have too much beauty products :)
We all fight with our mums, but we also know that even though we don't always agree with them, we know that all they do, they do it for us. On this special day, we have the chance to show them that we appreciate all the sacrifices they make, and the patience they take. They take care of us all day, every day. It's not about how much you spend, it's about the thought. Mother's day should be everyday, because no matter how old we are, they take care of us all the time, not only on child's day.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL MUMS AND GRANDMAS!

Coloured Bottoms

Hello dear readers :)

Lately, I've been obsessing about coloured pants, neon, pastel, warm, any colour. I'm going to show you some examples of outfits I created so that you can take a hint on how you could wear them and look fabulous. All the outfits are wearable and can be easily recreated, not just with jeans, but also with skirts or shorts. I'm sure you're going to relate yourself to at least one of them, so let me know which one is your favourite! :)

I imagine this look on a tourist. It's simple, comfortable, and really fun for a summer morning, shopping, and an ice cream with friends by the beach. Even though I used two bright colours in the outfit, the look still looks great. Don't be afraid to wear neon this summer!

My love for mint has no limits, and this mint jeans looks adorable with the yellow floral blouse. Pastels are my favourite thing this summer, I love how they make you look calm and happy, and they give the classic good girl look. Note how I paired them with nude brogues and bag so the pastel colours can stay the main focus of the outfit, but then added a bold and bright lip colour to make it more fun and have something which pops out and contrasts the light colours.

This outfit is ideal for those girls with a colourful, girly and bubbly personality. Again here I paired a contrasting pastel colour to the outfit. Not everything has to match, but they need to compliment each other.

This outfit is the most casual, ideal for when you're in a rush, and need to be comfortable for a busy morning. It's simple and feminine, and the print in the scarf changes the look from boring to interesting and fun.
This outfit is smart yet casual. The light grey, pale yellow and white can be easily spiced up by adding bold and dark teal earrings, and nail polish. I used flat sandals to make it look casual, but with high heels and a small bag, this look would be great for a night out.

This outfit is more edgy and wild than the others above, but still very wearable. The spikes on the bracelet and the leopard print gives the impression of a naughty girl, and I love how mustard looks with leopard print.
I hope you've enjoyed reading this blog because I really had fun making it :)

Choose to Shine

Hello dear readers!

My camera is broken, and it's at the technician's at the moment. It is for this reason that I cannot do the posts I planned using my camera. I'm still here though, and therefore I'm taking this opportunity to do a talky post.

On this day, exactly today six months ago, I was confused. It had been two months since I had started university. I was starting to make new friends, and realised how my life was changing. I realised I was going to spend three years with people I never met before, people who knew nothing about my past. I can imagine you saying ... 'what past ?? ' lol, don't get me wrong.... :P nothing special, literally, nothing was special about my life. I had no identity, i was the shaddow of my friends; the popular one, the athlete, the dancer, the singer etc. And University was supposed to be a new start, but the same thing was going to take place again ... I had to stop it.

I knew I had a lot to give. I knew myself but I also knew also that other people didn't know me. As Coco Chanel says:

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”

I wanted to stand out from the crowd, not to be popular. Not to look good, but to feel good about myself. I love singing, but I don't know how to sing, I love dancing, but I'm not good either... what was I good at? What did I love the most? Apart from watching tv series, I always spent my free time reading fashion blogs, and watching fashion and beauty gurus on youtube, so I decided to go and talk to a dear friend who told me that whatever I was going to do, people were going to judge, you can never please everyone, so might as well do what you love.

That's what I wanted to share with you. I did what I wanted, for the first time I went with my gut feeling, I wanted to follow my dreams so I took action. It's been six months now, and I feel changed, this little experience gave me so much. I have somewhere where I could be myself, and I know that my readers are getting to know the real Ruth. When I started to get so much good response, I started to love myself more, I felt happy and better about myself. I feel much  more confident now.

CONFIDENCE IS POWER

I am still learning, and what I learn, I like to share it with you. I wish I had someone who taught me the stuff I Blog about before I started blogging, and that's why I blog and share these with you. I want to make people feel better about themselves. I love giving compliments, and finally I'm learning how to reveive them ... How many of you had someone tell you that you look nice, and you just thought that you must have had something wrong ? Well that used to happen to me... But how can you expect that others accept you, if you do not accept yourself?

Unfortunately there's a thing called jealousy, and girls tend to suffer a lot from this. I like to explain jealousy like this. It is that feeling expressed when one doesn’t feel happy with one’s self so instead of trying to be better, that person tries to put others down in order to have 5 minutes of fame and feel better about themselves. Please, do not use other's faults to make you feel better about yours ! And don't let people who try to take you down influence you.

Do you ever notice how moods  are contagious ? When someone is really happy, he automatically brings a smile to the people he meets. It's amazing how a smile can change a person's day.

Now my dreams have changed; I dream to write articles for fashion magazines, and style fashion shoots, step by step, I think I'm getting better :) I also realised how much I love writing, and being in an environmental course at University, I aim to write environmental related articles :) We'll see how that goes on ... Just tell your friends about my blog if you think it's worth following, and help me get better by suggesting blog posts you would like to see... I am here because you supported me from the beginning, and so I thank you for believing in me :)

Now go believe in yourself,  and always choose to shine !

Much love
