What to wear to an interview

Hello dear readers :)

Summer is approaching, and many of us are looking for summer jobs, going to recruitment days, and interviews. It's not as easy as it seems to choose what to wear to an interview. One has to keep in mind that you have to impress the interviewer, so that he/she can remember who you are later. Interviews and recruitment days, (and meeting your mother-in-law for the first time), are ones of the few occasions in life where you are going to be judged by the first impression. I always say that you should always dress up according to your personality and here you should too, but there are some boundaries that one should stick to.

Here are some tips and tricks on how to impress in an interview:

  • Avoid denim or busy patterns but go for toned down colours, not only black and white.
  • Look smart and preppy, but it depends on the level of formality you want.
  • Make sure you can sit down comfortably with your outfit.
  • Play on the safe side and wear nothing extravagant, (I love that word), but add something which will catch the eye in a good way, like simple and dainty accessories.
  • A large hand bag looks better than a clutch or a crossover for interviews.
  • Show NO cleavage and Nothing provocative, that can never look professional, and you may intimidate the interviewer :P
  • No glitters allowed, let your personality shine, not your clothes.
  • No strange colour on your nails, even if you like it and it's in, remember the person interviewing you may not know that bright yellow, green or blue nails are in, and he might judge you wrongly just for that. Preferably go for a french manicure, or if your nails are short like mine, go for a nude colour or just nail hardener.
  • For shoes, it depends on how formal you want to look and what job you ,'re applying for. You can go with flat pups or a bit of a heel, but avoid sandals, sneakers, and super high heels.
  • Wear makeup, its not that you'll get the job if you're pretty, but wearing makeup gives the impression that you are trying to look better for the interview, because you care about the job. However, do not over-do it. No red lips, No smokey eyes, No thick eye liners.
  • Groom your eyebrows and upper lip.
  • Avoid face piercings, and showing tattoos, and here I'm not saying that people with face-piercings or tattoos should not get employed as much as people without. You can find a person without any piercing and without any tattoos which is much less professional and hardworking than a person tattooed from head to toes, but you know about that thing called stigma ? Unfortunately, people judge, and if you want a particular job, you need to give a certain impression, and you never know how conservative the interviewer will be.
  • Don't go sleeve less.
  • Look clean, clean shoes, clean hair, that's a must anywhere, especially to interviews.
  • Go for a fresh perfume, but nothing strong.
  • Don't wear anything too tight fitting.

Makeup Collection and Storage

Hello dear readers !

In today's post I will show you my makeup collection without going into detail, with the aim to give you some ideas of some practical ways on how to store your own makeup.

This is where I do my makeup and hair daily. It's my favourite part of my room :) I have my perfumes, nail polishes, hair tools, jewellery, and makeup all within reach and I could spend hours daily on that chair if I had time!

My whole makeup collection. For some it may be a lot but for others it may be a few. To me, it is the perfect amount!

(The straw bag has all my hair accessories so won't be reviewed below)

In this pair of large cups which I adore, I store / display all my lip products. In the first cup I have all my lip sticks and some samples on the plate, and in the second cup, I have all my lip glosses, lip stains and lip liners, and in the cup I have my lip savers. I think it is a perfect way to store your lip products because it is very handy and I can see them all and chose the ones I want easily.

The way I store my eye shadows is a fun little DIY. This was originally a Ferrero Roche box, which I reused to store my quads and mono eyeshadows. I transformed the lid in a palette by sticking shadows which had broken up or which I removed from their original case.

I keep all my brushes, (face and eye) in this Nivea mug, and my eye liners in this plastic case. It was originally the container of a souvenir! I thought it was the perfect size for my liners and voila, I reused it :)

I keep the makeup which I use everyday, with which I make my everyday 10 minutes look in this straw container. I find it very practical, because I have all the products I use daily in the same place so that I can easily get ready everyday, especially early mornings!

I have all my other makeup in this makeup bag. My other blushes, foundations, gel liners, etc and products which I do not use on a daily basis.
I hope you got some ideas :)

March Favourite Products

Hello my dear readers :)

Time for another favourites post, and today it is March's turn.

  • The first new product I will review is The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil, which is of the same line of the products I reviewed earlier on my blog ( click here to view February Favourites). This tea tree oil is such a life saver. It is aimed to help dry and soothes spots and prevents others from growing. I find it especially great when I feel a spot which hasn't yet showed up, this helps the spot (which is still under the skin) to generally vanish overnight!  I apply two/three drops of it on a cotton bud and then press it on the area in particular (after I have cleansed, toned and moisturized my face before I go to bed.)

  • The two next products aren't new for me, but I have been using them daily this month and have been loving them so much more lately than when I bought them months ago. The first one is the 'Tinted Day Creme for impure skin' from Biodroga Systems which I got at the pharmacy. I'm in the shade 01, sand touch. It works like a tinted moisturizer, which means you apply it after your cleanser and toner, and it acts both as a moisturizer and as a foundation. I like to add some concealer and a little bit of powder on top, but you don't need to. It is especially aimed for impure skin and I have noticed my skin to breathe during the day without getting too much oily. The tint of this product is also great, it doesn't look like you have any makeup on, but yet hides a lot of imperfections and evens out my skin-tone. A tinted day cream/ moisturizer is very practical for mornings, where you need to get ready fast and have no time for makeup, but still it gives you that flawless, effortless and natural look that all ladies want! I don't know if it has SPF in it, but it smells of sun-block, so I've convinced myself that it does!

Note the small amount of product I use on my whole face daily. It spreads out really well and looks naturally on your skin.

  • The last product for today is this eyeliner pen from Maybelline. It is so easy to work with and again, practical for everyday use. It allows you to do both thin and thick lines for different looks, I use it for my upper lash line and wing the ends a little bit, then I line my waterline with a pencil liner. Spend some time to learn how to manage it correctly, and you'll become an eyeliner expert in few days. It is very user friendly and the best part is that it is long lasting :) If you have oily eyelids like I do, make sure you use eye primer or foundation before using and it will stay on all day.

How to be a wise shopaholic !

Hello my beautiful readers :)

Today I was reading 'the secret dreamworld of a shopaholic' and I came across this quote :

''In fact I think they should list shopping under cardiovascular activity. My heart never beats as fast as it does when I see a 'reduced by 50 per cent' sign.''

Yes, I admit that I consider shopping as a sport, I'm such a talented athlete you know :P However sometimes we need to go through our wardrobe and realize that we need to be more sensible when shopping. I bet all of you (like me) have stuff you regret buying in your wardrobe, stuff that lay there but you avoid to wear because you realized you shouldn't have bought. Don't you ?

I gathered some suggestions on how to shop wisely. I'm sure you'll see yourself guilty in some, so take care of these tips and tricks when shopping next, your bank account will be happy :)

  • KNOW WHAT YOU OWN. Go round your wardrobe before you go shopping so you make sure to know what you already own and not buying similar pieces, or pieces which don't compliment any of your other items.

  • PLAN.
Make lists of what you really need, of what is missing in your wardrobe and of items that would complete some outfits that you already have.

  • LIFESTYLE.
Consider your lifestyle before buying, be realistic and ask yourself where and when you will wear the item.

  • KNOW YOUR BODY TYPE.
Look for things that will embrace your body type perfectly, that will bring out your best feature. Know what suits you best and buy similar things.

  • INSPIRE YOURSELF.
Why not looking through old pictures and see what you look best in and what colour suits you most? Inspire yourself from street-style and look for styles and items you liked on others, only if they fit your personality and shape.

  • BUY YOUR SIZE.
Every shop tend to vary in sizes, so try more than one size before buying. Never buy anything, especially trousers, shorts and skirts, which are too tight or too large as they will both make you look fatter. (unless embracing the over-sized trend properly)

  • DON'T BUY BECAUSE IT FITS.
Yes you have to buy what fits, but not because it fits. I tend to have that problem because of my size, it is sometimes really hard to find items I like in my size. Yet, I try to avoid buying an item just because it is the only one that fits me, and which I'm not particularly excited about. I buy what I like and that fits.

  • DRESS UP FOR SHOPPING.
Go pretty when shopping, because if you don't like the way you look, you won't like the way the clothes look on you either! Don't forget to wear your best undergarments too, so the items you try on look the best on you too.

  • COMPARE.
Compare items from one shop to another, compare the price, the material, the quality, and how it fits, so as to avoid finding another piece which you would have been more fond of!

  • HAVE A BUDGET. Know your budget and see if items are worth buying at that price.

  • TRY ON.
Always try on clothing before buying, walk with it, sit, bend, jump, walk away from the mirror so you see yourself from different angles, do whatever you want.. the important thing is that you are sure that you are comfortable in that piece and that nothing is too tight or too loose. (of course unless online shopping)

  • HAVE YOU OWN OPINION.
Rely only on your taste. You will be the one wearing it, so be sure you like it and that you are looking forward to wearing it! However don't be afraid to ask for opinions, to a friend or to the sales girl, you will still be the one taking the decision whether to buy it or not. If you tend to find it difficult to buy alone, take a friend who has your same tastes in fashion, and don't let anyone influence you badly :P

  • RECOGNIZE A BARGAIN.
Don't buy anything with a cheap price. Sale can help you make really good deals, but not everything on sale is a good deal! You have to think whether you would have wanted to buy the item if it wasn't on sale. If you wouldn't have considered it, then don't buy it. It's better if you keep that seven euros for something you really want than for a cheap item. But don't get me wrong! Sale does not mean cheap and boring.

Always choose to shine!
