How to dress like Serena Wanderwoodsen (Gossip Girl)

Today’s blog is dedicated to all Gossip Girl lovers out there, who can’t wait for the next episode in January ! I will be talking about the stunning Serena Wanderwoodsen’s  Season 5 wardrobe. Of course, her clothes are expensive designer pieces costing a lot more than my budget can afford! But it’s easy to use Serena’s style to look as gorgeous as she does with much less money !

I once read that Serena’s look was inspired by Megan Fox. She mixes lots of fashion-forward and vintage pieces together for a boho-chic look , and adds a rocker-chic edge. She can throw anything on and make her look fabulous with no effort and she loves wearing stuff that puts a unique spin to her outfit.

In season 5 , Serena has embraced the Metallic trend really well.  You can create a great look instantly with a simple metallic item because metallic tones always are extremely pleasing to the eye and stand out! Adding a statement metallic blazer to a simple outfit, or a metallic handbag makes you look sophisticated and expensive with no effort, and most importantly, not spending a lot of money. 

You can add any kind of metallic clothing item to any simple outfit, so you can play with outfits and mix and match and create more than one look with only one item. One can find metallic skirts, tops , shoes, handbags, blazers, cardigans in most shops , and in metallic bronze, silver, gold and black. Serena also owns a gold dress in which she looks like a goddess. When wearing a metallic dress, keep in mind to go neutral and simple with anything else, try to keep only one statement metallic item, where there is only one thing that stands out, where you can look sophisticated and simple at the same time.

Serena’s wardrobe is all about adventure and fun. I love the way she plays with colours, especially with bright colours. I noticed that when she wears a birght colour like coral or blue, she pairs them with white, or cream , or any other light colour. She never mixes light and bright with dark colours, so that the colour pops out more.  One cannot not point out that Serena loves layers in her outfits. She does it with vests in summer , and cardigans and blazers when it’s more chilly. 

Serena’s jackets and blazers always have an impeccable cut. It’s important that when one invests in a blazer or jacket, the cut helps to bring out one’s best physical features and hides flaws. Serena has a perfect body, but her clothes help her to look even more sexy and curvy in the right places. 

You have to keep in mind your own body shape and adapt clothes to your own personality and style. Who says a curvy girl cannot look stunning??

Statement necklaces are another big feature in Serena’s wardrobe.  Chunky and short necklaces glam up a simple outfit. If its a little black dress, or a simple day top, statement necklaces give a twist to the outfit and make it more fun.  With the same outfit, one can match more than one necklace, so wearing a different statement necklace at a time, gives the impression that you’ve changed the whole outfit!

When the dress is not that simple, but has crazy patterns , one has to go simple with acessorising, as it’s the dress which is the statement this time.  Serena pairs long pearl necklaces with patterned dresses. They keep the attention to the dress , but still fill up the outfit with some glam and sophistication.
